Imperatives
We use imperatives to give people orders or instructions. In other words, we use imperatives to tell others what to do, or what not to do.
Open your books.
Don't speak with anyone about it.
Positive Imperatives
In order to make a positive imperative sentence, we simply start a sentence with a main verb.
Do your homework.
Close the door.
Negative Imperatives
In order to make a negative imperative sentence, we just put "don't" at the beginning of a positive imperative sentence.
Don't check your Instagram before sleeping.
Don't forget to turn off the lights.
We can add the word "please" at the beginning or at the end of an imperative sentence to sound polite.
Please, be quiet.
Close the door, please.
Don't smoke inside, please.
